The Challenge

The company runs two products: an AI design studio and CRM that takes apparel brands from concept to factory quote, and a shop-floor management app for garment manufacturers. The thesis was strong, but both products were at MVP stage and built by a very small team. The investor needed to tell product promise apart from execution risk, and to see a roadmap that would compound value.

Our Approach

  • Ran a separate six-domain product due diligence for each application on the Thesis four-band severity scale (Critical / High / Medium / Low), so the two assets could be compared directly.
  • Built consolidated risk registers and phased remediation roadmaps that could be written into investment covenants.
  • Followed with a product-strategy engagement that rebuilt the 0–6 month roadmap around a three-pillar flywheel.

What We Found

  • A real, defensible moat: the platform combines AI design with an existing vetted factory network. A design tool without factories cannot execute, and a sourcing marketplace without a design front-end cannot create demand.
  • Strong product foundations: a shipped MVP, a multi-provider AI layer (models can be swapped without refactoring) and deep apparel-workflow coverage.
  • Execution gaps typical of an early MVP: near-zero unit test coverage, direct-to-production releases with no staging, no penetration testing or secrets management, no product or financial metrics, missing IP-assignment and privacy notices, and key-person concentration.

Outcome & Impact

  • Verdict: High Risk, Conditional Invest. Investable on the thesis, subject to a tracked remediation program (90 days for core security and engineering controls, 6–9 months to reach enterprise-grade maturity).
  • Reframed the business from "a design studio plus a CRM" to a design-and-fulfillment partner built on three connected pillars. (1) Demand capture: an order-tracking portal becomes a weekly engagement surface. (2) Supply and personalization: SKU, customer and factory data stores feed a two-sided recommender that matches designs to buyers and RFQs to factories. (3) An AI studio running from ideation through try-on, costing, tech pack and factory handoff.
  • Tied each roadmap phase to measurable KPIs: repeat-order frequency, sample-to-PO conversion, and design-to-order cycle time. The target is to cut that cycle by 85–90% versus the industry's typical multi-week process.
